The Holding is an ongoing project centered on developing a piece of land on a neighboring island, just across from the County Park Ala Spit, with open views toward nearby islands and the Cascade range, including Mt. Baker.
One of the quieter but more meaningful details of The Holding is its relationship to the land itself. The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail passes directly in front of the property, part of a 1,200-mile route connecting the Continental Divide in Montana to the Pacific Ocean. This stretch reflects what the PNT does best: moving through working lands, wild coastlines, and small communities that are as much a part of the journey as the trail itself.
In addition to being a future home for Jameson’s mother, the land is being shaped to include a Northwest-inspired vacation rental (aka The Bunkhouse), a handful of campsites, and a retro camper setup. The focus is on simple, well-considered accommodations for more adventuresome travelers—people drawn to quiet places, shared outdoor spaces, and time spent outside.
As the project takes shape, part of our intention is to give something back. We plan to act as Trail Angels, offering thru-hikers a place to rest by making campsites (and bunkhouse if available) free of charge. It’s a small gesture, but one rooted in the long tradition of care, hospitality, and mutual respect that keeps long trails, and the people who walk them, moving forward.
Plans for the property include an outdoor kitchen, communal areas, and hosting rooted in deep local knowledge of the surrounding region and its trails, waters, and seasons.
The Holding is a piece of land we’re restoring with native plants, welcoming travelers from near and far, and keeping as a place of refuge for family and friends. This page will document the project as it unfolds at a deliberate pace, offering a running journal of the work through video updates and reflections along the way.
